In business environments considerable parts of IT-supported processes rely on an office suite. Hence the tendency to provide small pieces of busness applications as office extension or macro. These artefacts bear significant technical differences over conventionally developed applications and set specific challenges for continuous, effective and efficient maintaince. The BoF starts with a short overview over the history of FLOSS-driven office solutions at LHM (city administration of Munich) and its consequences. An analysis of the technical status-quo is given, together with techniques and tools which make maintainance work. Although the technical focus is on office, the talk gives a good taste of problems typically encountered during migration of big business environments in direction of FLOSS-based solutions – within the context of the city administration of Munich, a Debian biotope with approx. 18.000 clients.
