Debian is Decidedly Indecisive -- Josh Triplett

Debian rarely makes decisions. Given a choice of technologies, defaults, or configurations, we invariably answer "all of the above", and go to great lengths to support that. The resulting flexibility appeals to users with strong opinions on specific technologies; however, this puts a larger burden on less opinionated users, who simply want good defaults.

This discussion will cover the reasons behind Debian's approach to decisions, explore alternatives, and seek out ways to provide smoother default configurations.
